They are divided into five major collecting areas:

  • Miriam Snow Mathes Historical Children's Literature Collection
  • Designed to provide access to out-of-print children's literature, the Mathes Collection includes books and periodicals for children and young adults, published in the United States, mostly between 1875 and 1960.

  • Political Pamphlets
  • This is an artificial collection of thousands of rare pamphlets published on a wide variety of 20th century political topics.

  • Rare Books
  • A large collection of unique and specialized books that do not circulate because of the item's uniqueness, fragility, or scarcity.
