John R. Ryan Named 12th SUNY Chancellor

1997 April 21

The SUNY Board of Trustees appointed John R. Ryan as the 12th Chancellor. Ryan had been serving for nine months as interim chancellor. UAlbany President Karen Hitchcock was a member of the 24-person chancellor search committee which reviewed more than 100 nominees.

University Adopts New Smoking Policy

1996 Fall

University adopts a new smoking policy that restricts smoking to designated suites and bedrooms in Residence Halls, and prohibits it within ten feet of building entrances and windows and in all exterior stairwells. Smoking is prohibited in private offices and all other indoor spaces.
