The Toys of Nuremberg by Lillian Baker Sturges

The Toys of Nuremberg (Rand McNally, 1915) was illustrated and written by Lillian Baker Sturges. It was composed of simple, rhyming verses accompanied by highly colorful illustrations. This winning combination produced a perfect book for very young children. In the story, the toyshop toys "rebel" by exiting the shop together, and running into the streets of Nuremberg at night time. In so doing, they wake the inhabitants of the town with all of their noise. The children run after the toys, and the adults run after the children. In the end, toys and children find each other, along with happiness.
