CSEA questioned why the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities never replaced a problematic security system following a violent sexual attack on two female workers at the center. After an investigation by the union and a highly publicized demonstration, the center's management agreed the security problem existed, upgraded the current system, and committed to install immediately a more effective system.

Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) Central Region Executive Vice President Ginger Sheffey, who has officially moved up to region president following Jim Moore's retirement. Sheffey, who worked for the Cayuga County Health and Human Services Department, had served four terms as executive vice president and has held numerous other positions throughout CSEA, statewide, regionally and locally. The CSEA is New York State's largest union.
Day care provider and Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA)/VOICE (Voice of Organized Independent Childcare Educators) founding member Fran Nantista with some of the children for whom she cares. He fills the office left vacant by Maureen Malone's retirement from her union office and state job. The CSEA is New York State's largest union.
