Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) union members grieve during a memorial service at the state Office Campus in Albany for state Department of Taxation and Finance and Department of Transportation workers who were killed or remain missing in the World Trade Center attacks. There were 42 empty chairs, each draped with the state flag, to represent the 42 state workers, 39 from the tax department and three from the state transportation department. The memorial was held on October 11, 2001.

Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA)'s Village of Irvington Unit is implementing new safety procedures. Unit President Todd Smith said the unit has created a safety committee that now meets regularly. Unit members, who work in the villages Department of Public Works, Water Department and Park's Department, have undergone trainings led by CSEA Occupational Safety and Health Department staff. Smith said the unit recently bought safety green colored winter CSEA jackets for workers in an effort to increase visibility of workers on sanitation routes and other road work.
