The retirees brought their message, part of the CSEA battle for annual cost-of-living increases for public employee retirees, to the Capitol and the Legislative Office building: Governor Mario Cuomo said on April 24th 1991 his sympathies are not with retirees: "It's our money." The CSEA is New York State's largest union.
