At the time of his appointment as Acting Secretary-General of the United Nations, U Thant had been Permanent Representative of Burma to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador (1957-1961). He visited the university on the occasion of the University Seminar on Peaceful Changes, 1966. In this picture, Thant is at the podium and is difficult to see behind the watermark on the photograph.
