Birr is now Professor Emeritus of History at the University at Albany, SUNY and wrote the definitive "A Tradition of Excellence: The Sesquicentennial History of the University at Albany, State University of New York, 1844 to 1994" (Virginia Beach, VA: The Donning Company, 1994).
