Shaw is a celebrated jazz pianist and music educator and has been an adjunct faculty member of The College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY from 1982 to the present. She has also taught courses at Broward Community College North (Coconut Creek, FL), Holy Names Art Center (Albany, NY), and at Empire State College (Saratoga, NY).
