A System Dynamics model specially built toanalyze energy policies in the Colombian industrial sector is presented. Themodel allows to simulate two main aspects of industrial energy consumption:line production and boilers. Thedecision processes takes into account all energy alternatives and select themost economic one. Decision are made based on economic terms where variablessuch as investment, tariffs, energy consumption and maintenance are taken intoaccount. The model allows to examine several aspects such as: alternative ontechnology diffusion, energy consumption growth and effects of pricing policieson diverse energetic demands. The model was applied to the energy consumptionof the industrial sector in the Medellin Metropolitan Area, Colombia. Results are included.
