Scope and content:: The Project Files and Publications series consists of materials created or collected by Correctional Association staff members engaged in short-term, topic-specific projects designed to produce written reports about various aspects of the correctional system. Some of these projects were completed in collaboration with other organizations, such as The Urban Justice Center and the CAIC, and some were proposals for projects that were not completed. Materials include newspaper clippings of op-eds, correspondence, opinion pieces, lobbying and advocacy day materials, planning materials, reports and report drafts, and supplemental materials used in or referred to in the creation of the report. Projects include, but not limited to, the Case Histories Project, Prison Mental Hygiene Project, AIDS in Prison Project, Women in Prison Project, and the Juvenile Justice Project. Furthermore, this collection includes newsletter publications that were published by the Correctional Association, including the “CA Bulletin,” the “CA Reporter,” the “News Bulletin,” the “News Update,” and the “Newsletter of the Correctional Association of New York.”
Arrangement:: This series is arranged alphabetically.

Access:: The archives are open to the public and anyone is welcome to visit and view the collections.

Restrictions:: Select, individual files in this series are restricted as they contain personal identifiable information related to incarcerated individuals and others, and correspondence with incarcerated individuals. Restricted folders in these series are noted at the file-level, and requests to view these materials must be discussed with an archivist.
Collection restrictions:: Access to portions of Series 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8, is restricted as they contain personal identifiable information related to incarcerated individuals and others, and correspondence with incarcerated individuals. Restricted folders in these series are noted at the file-level, and requests to view these materials must be discussed with a staff member. Series 3 is completely restricted due to a large quantity of personal identifiable information of incarcerated individuals, and correspondence with incarcerated individuals throughout the series. Requests to view Series 3 must be discussed with a staff member. Consult a staff member for further details.
Collection terms of access:: The researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of copyright. Whenever possible, the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives will provide information about copyright owners and other restrictions, but the legal determination ultimately rests with the researcher. Requests for permission to publish material from this collection should be discussed with the Head of Special Collections and Archives.
