- Scope and content:
- The Subject Files series consists of reference material concerning correctional facility operations, criminal law and the criminal courts, juvenile offenders, rehabilitation programs, and other subjects in which the Correctional Association was interested and may have used for research or potential projects. Documents include newspaper clippings, correspondence, affidavits, correction reform events that may have been attended, and brochures. There are also materials created by the Correctional Association, but did not pertain to operations, projects, or prison visits. Newsletters and materials of other organizations, including general information and materials from the Osborne Association that were not directly related to the joint operation of the organizations, also can be found in this series.

Using these materials
- Access:
- The archives are open to the public and anyone is welcome to visit and view the collections.
- Restrictions:
- Select, individual files in this series are restricted as they contain personal identifiable information related to incarcerated individuals and others. Restricted folders in these series are noted at the file-level, and requests to view these materials must be discussed with an archivist.
- Collection restrictions:
- Access to portions of Series 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8, is restricted as they contain personal identifiable information related to incarcerated individuals and others, and correspondence with incarcerated individuals. Restricted folders in these series are noted at the file-level, and requests to view these materials must be discussed with a staff member. Series 3 is completely restricted due to a large quantity of personal identifiable information of incarcerated individuals, and correspondence with incarcerated individuals throughout the series. Requests to view Series 3 must be discussed with a staff member. Consult a staff member for further details.
- Collection terms of access:
- The researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of copyright. Whenever possible, the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives will provide information about copyright owners and other restrictions, but the legal determination ultimately rests with the researcher.
