Governor Rockefeller has proclaimed Saturday, October 13th as STATE UNIVERSITY DAY
throughout New York State. SUNY Chancellor Ernest Boyer has issued a statement to
all staff members, calling for campus participation in a state-wide day of
observance and celebration. SUNY/UNITED President Lawrence Delucia notes that
October 12th and 13th have been set aside for the Fall Delegate Assembly meeting,
to be held in Albany.

Meanwhile, the SUNY staff still awaits a recommendation from the select comittee
of the state legislature which was established after Governor Rockefeller rejected
the fact-finder's recommendation of a 6-1/2% increase in SUNY salaries for 1973-74.

We can use STATE UNIVERSITY DAY to get our message across, too. Most campuses will
be setting up special meetings, programs, activities, and displays to highlight the
achievements of the State University of New York.

Qur chapters must participate. the public will be invited, and we can use this
‘opportunity to let then and our colleagues know the facts of our salary situation.

Here's what your chapter can do:

* set up a display booth with factual information on staff salaries
. and workload on your campus, using audio-visual materials if possible

* prepare and distribute informative fact sheets on the history of this
year's salary negotiations

* distribute copies of the Governor's statement rejecting the fact-
finders' recomendations on salary increases for SUNY staff

* invite support and participation from campus leaders (both staff and
students) and members of your local community

* extend a personal invitation in behalf of your chapter to your State
Senate and Assembly representatives to attend your campus programs

* use your imagination to develop other ways of denonstrating concern
* arrange for coverage of your activities by local news media

The Delegate Assembly will be meeting in Albany on October 13th. We have the
opportunity to let the state know that we are a serious and visible presence on
each and every SUNY campus while the Delegate Assembly is taking place. Please
let us know your plans as soon as possible so that we can coordinate state-wide
media coverage,
