Albany County Government, 1953-2016
- Extent:
- 1.4 cubic ft.
- Scope and content:
- Many of the local items of study that the LWVAC took on dealt with the Albany County Government and its departments. The majority of this series is made of material related to the Albany County Charter revisions in 1973, 1993 , 2014, and 2016, which the LWVAC took active part in. In particular, the group advocated for a County Executive in 1973 and for making the County Coroner a medical doctor in 1993. Records relating to the LWVAC’s work on the County Charter include Albany County Charter Revision Committee meeting minutes, press releases, and public hearing testimony by members of the LWVAC. The Albany County Legislature was another focus of the LWVAC; the group lobbied for and against certain county issues. Also in this series are the guides to Albany County that the LWVAC published. Spotlight on Albany County was published in 1955, and the subsequent This is Albany County was published in 1968, 1971, 1980, 1996, and 2000.
