Dear *greeting*,

While writing up the minutes, I realized that this
up coming (23 May 1992) field trip is a great opportunity
to make an impression on both the Catskill Center and the
Vrooman's Nose Preservation group. We could even garner a
little local public exposure at the same time. With a
little effort we can leave Catskill Center and Vrooman's
Nose folks with a good impression that we are an effective
and energetic organization, which can not hurt in future
dealings with them. On the other hand, as is true anytime
groups work together, we run the risk of giving a very
different impression. In many ways this will be a chance
to make a first impression on both groups.

In discussing this matter with Ken, we came up with
several thoughts which I pass on to get you thinking about
what we can do and to get you to free up time on your
calendar.
- we should be in close touch with the Vrooman's Nose
group, offer them
support, less they feel that we are taking advantage of
them - while they have done presentations before, Ken will
check with them and review the presentation
- we should give a brief presentation on SLT and pass out
brochures- perhaps we could arrange to enhance VNg's
presentation on the history of the valley by having
presenters on the, trees, herbaceous plants, and or birds.
We were both concerned that any presentation not get to
long. As an alternative to having all those presentations
at the van Houten, some could be done informally on the
preserve, at the parking lot, as guided tours, or along the
trail. I just thought, it might be nice to have some one
at the top who could orient people and point out land
marks. It would also be interesting to talk about
agriculture in the area.
- since the parking lot is a natural gather place and there
is no place to sit, except one's car which is pretty
unsociable, maybe we can easily find some benches to set
out for the occasion. This will be especially helpful if we
get some less strong guests.
- perhaps we could provide coffee or some kind or
refreshments to augment people's brown bag lunch
- we should certainly have SLT people there and ready to
chat with any
members of Catskill Centers Board and staff that might come
along
- a news release of two to announce the event would help
local PR.
- a reporter to take photos at the time would help in
getting news articles about the event
- we should have some photos of our own, both to provide to
the papers in a news release, and to document our
activities. - if we can put together program additions
early enough, they could be included in Catskill Center's
announcements.

If you think about it you'll realize that this has
the potential to be quite helpful to us or could do some
damage if we drop the ball entirely. We need to think of
ways to make us look professional, that don't take to much
work. Unfortunately we only have one planning meeting
between now and then, so most planning and ideas will have
to be share by phone.
Save that Land,
