Summary

Abstract:
Joseph Yale Resnick was a U.S. Representative from New York. Educated in electronics and during World War II served as a radio officer in the United States Merchant Marine. Resnick was founder and chairman of the board of Channel Master Corp. He was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-ninth and Ninetieth Congresses (January 3, 1965-January 3, 1969). Resnick was not a candidate for reelection to the House of Representatives in 1968. Resnick was also an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the United States Senate. Resnick returned to his business interests and died in Las Vegas, Nevada while traveling to California on a business trip on October 6, 1969. This collection contains materials related to his time in Congress.

Scope and Content:

This collection consists of materials from Albert Blumenthal's service in Congress, including correspondence, bills, subject files, reports, and press releases.

Biographical / Historical:

Joseph Yale Resnick was a born in Ellenville, Ulster County, New York on July 13, 1924. He was educated in electronics, and during World War II he served as a radio officer in the United States Merchant Marine. Resnick was the founder and chairman of the Board of Channel Master Corp., and engaged in electronics and plastic research and development. Resnick was also the inventor of the first TV antenna. Prior to his time in Congress, Resnick was a also a member of the Ellenville School Board.

Resnick was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-Ninth and Ninetieth Congresses on January 3, 1965. Resnick served until January 3, 1969, and took on the American Farm Bureau Federation during his tenure. Resnick supported the Vietnam War and helped pass the Animal Welfare Act of 1966.

Resnick was not a candidate for reelection to the House of Representatives in 1968, and unsuccessfully lost the nomination to the United States Senate. Resnick returned to his business interests and died in Las Vegas, Nevada while traveling to California on a business trip on October 6, 1969. Interment is in the Hebrew Aid Society Cemetery in Wawarsing, New York. Resnick has an airport named after him in Ellenville, Ulster County, New York.

Acquisition information:
Joseph Yale Resnick originally donated his papers to Syracuse University between 1968-1969. In 2006, the collection was transferred to the M.E. Grenander Department of Speicial Collections and Archives.
