| 29=year=-old black "giant", electrocuted Indiana State Pri-
|} son (Porter County on change of venue from Lake) July 1,
1932. From Gary, he had imrdered Josephine Odoriczzi ther
in March, 1929, ‘Was known as the "Gary hatchet slayer,"
(Grooms says crime on 5-17-1929, but this is wrong as he
was already in custody.) Her mutilated body found in va-
cant lot at 15th and Pierce Sts., two days after murder.
He was arrested shortly afterwards when bloodstained hat-
chet found in home, Confessed to that and a number of
other murders and assaults in Gary's central district over
a 3 month period which he and another man, Known only as
"the man with the limp" committed, He refused to every
identify companion and he was not captured, Also con=
fessed to mrder of Mary Gigl, 15-year-old runaway girl
from Milwaukee at lth and Virginia Sts., and the serious
