Haugh, a 35-year-old white Daytofl, Ohio, physician, was a drug addict
who was suspected of having performed a number of illegal abortions,
He had been married four times, two marraages ending with the sudden
deaths of the wives and his practice and personal life were a sham-
bles when he returned to the Dayton residence of his parents, Jacob
and Mary Frances Haugh, with the avowed intention of straightening
himself out and living a reformed life, He asked his father for the
money to set himself back up in medical practice and when the elder
Haugh explained that he did not have it, Oliver demanded that he
mortgage the family home to raise the funds. This Mr. Haugh refused
to doe On the night of Nov. 4, 1905, he murdered his father and
mother and his brother Jessie and set fire to the house in an effort
to eliminate any trace of the crime, He himself sustained minor
burns on his leg which were treated at the hsopital, As everything
of value had been removed from the dwelling before the fire and his
