WARNER, Wes Ley

Warner, a white man of German descent, was a produce salesman who
lived in Burlington, N, J. He deserted his wife and children and
began having an affair with Elizabeth Peak of Mount Holly and they
lived together as man and wife for several years, Their relation-
ship was marred by Warner's extreme jealousy and possessiveness which
begame magnified when he was intoxicated, Finally she left and went
back to the home of her parents near Mount Holly, In mid-September,
1992, he saw her at a fair and became enraged because she was in the
company of several other men, He followed them to her home but made
no effort to harm her on that occasion, On the evening of Sept, 18,
1892, he went to the Peak home and was told that she and her two
sisters had gone to a theater in Mount Holly, He had been drinking
at the time and said that he would wait. After Mr. and Mrs, Peak
had gone to bed, leaving him sitting at the kKitehen table, he took

a large butcher knife and went out to the road where he hid behind

a bush, After Miss Peak and her sisters, accompanied by three young
men, passed, he leaped from behind the bush, stabbed her in the
breast one time and fled. He was taken into custody the next day
and claimed that, as he had been drinking, he did not remember what
