Wyatt Holmes, black, hanged on June 2), 1881, at Holly
Springs, Miss. within three miles of the court house in
presence of about 5,000 persons for mrder of Andrew Scott
black last February. The condemned man ascended the
scaffold with a firm step and composed smile. He made a
confession of his crime and called upon all present to
meet him in Heaven, At 12 o'clock the rope was adjusted
and the trap sprung. His neck was broken by the fall and
in 15 minutes his body was taken down and delivered to

his friends,
