Solomon

Was originally to die with accomplice Robinson on 10-27,
but granted a reprieve two minutes before execution when
Pres. Roosevelt personally called Prison supertindente.
A third man convicted of crime, Leonard Layton, had been
commuted by Roosevelt, Solomon, Washington taxi driver,
shot and killed in holdup on 7-28-1931, Roosevelt acted
on receiving recommendation from James C, Biggs, solicitor
general, that reprieve be granted so fresh evidence could
