Brown, a 32-year-old Lorain, Ohio, white ship yard worker had been
dating 26-year-old Helen Katonak for over a year. On Dec, 25, 19h),
he went to the home of her sister, Mrs, Andrew Raynak, where Miss
Katonak lived and threatened to kill himself when she refused to
marry him. He returned on Jan. 3, 195, and when Miss Katonak re~
fused to marry him once again, he stabbed her repeatedly in the chest
and throate He then stabbed Mrs, Raynak who ran from the house.
Brown pushed passed her and announced that he was going to the police
station which he did. When he announced to the policemen that he had
killed a woman, he went to the Raynak residence where they found Miss
Katonak's body. Brown contended that his mind went "blank" and that
he had no actual recollection of the crime, but he was convicted of
the murder and he was electrocuted on Feb. 9, 196.
