"10-28-182)-Hudson Sprouce, whose removal from Charlottes-
ville to Harrisonburg, for trial, on the charge of having
murdered Susan Sproucey.e,has, we.are informed, been con-
victed of the crime and received the sentence of death, He
is to be executed in Harrisonburg .on Dec. 10, 182), The
last Rockingham paper relates a melancholy occurrence, whicl
-has grown out of the removal of Sprouce to that town, From
the character of the prisoner it was deemed necessary to
place a guard over him at the jail, A sentinel on duty,ra-
ther full of the importance of his business, hailed on Sun-
day evening, the 16th inst. two young gentlemen whe were on
their way to Methodist meeting, and bringing them to, under
the point of the bayonet, commanded them,to 'mark time,!
Considering the conduct of the sentinel as nothing more tha
a jest, the young gentlemen carelessly replied they would
