murder of his wife, Charlotte, at Hacktown on March 29,
1883; body not found until April 2; was a farm hand and
laborer, had a large unsupported family in different
county poorhouses; merely said he was tired of his wife
and so cut her throat; became deeply religious at
approaching death and went to the gallows bravely;
