SWAN, William T,

Swan, alias Harry Lacy, was a 25-year-old black man who had, at one
time, lived in the home of Mrs, Mary Jackson, a 109-year-old woman,

on High Street in Chillicothe, Ohio, Mrs, Jackson disapproved of
Swan's relationship with her grand-daughter, Mrs. Delia McKinley, and
for that reason evicted him, Swan bore a grudge and early on the
morning of Dec, 23, 1909, he broke into her house and bludgeoned her
and her 2-year-old great grand-daughter, Minnie McKinley, unconstious,
He then seé fire to the house in an effort to obliterate traces of the
murderse Neighbors noticed the blaze and firemen were summoned, They
managed to get both Mrs, Jackson and Minnie out of the house while
they were still alive and they were rushed to the hospital where they
both died shortly afterwards. Swan was charged with murder and Mrs.
McKinley, the mother of Minnie, was charged with being an accomplice,
Both were convicted with Swan weceiving the death penalty while she
was sentenced to life imprisonment. Swan maintained his innocence and
said that Mrs. McKinley could clear him if she would do so, On the
night before his execution, she was taken before him on death row but
she refused to say anything that would help him He was electrocuted
