Jackson, a li-year-old black laborer, and his wife, Carrie Willie

lived in Newnan, Ga, Harly in November, 1953, they separated with
Jackson alleging that she had been going with an insurance agent and,
to a large extent, blaming their difficulties on her mother. On Nov,
17, she swore out a peace bond against him, claiming that she was
afraid of him. On Nov. 21, he called her at the place where she
worked and asked her to come by their home in order that they might
divide their possessions. When she arrived, he shot her with a shot-
gun twice. He then went to the home of his mother-in-law who-he beat
Jackson fled to Kansas City, Mos, where he was subsequently captured
