actual killing. Soth were convicted and sentenced to die and filed
notices of appeal, However, Donnell did not have the funds to pur-
sue his appeal through the courts. He was granted a respite until
the North Carolina Supreme Sourt ruled on leets sentence which was
upheld and a new date of execution set for both men. lee's attorneys
were able to secure a stay of execution for him, but Donnell was elec-
‘trocuted on Aug, 26, 1932. He went to his death maintaining his
innocence and Sax4X stating that even though he went into the store
with Lee, he did not know that his companion planned to rob Andrew,
