"The negro, Henry, whose brutal murder of Mr, William
Watkins in Carroll Parish, La., two weeks #X## since we
then recorded, was captured Sunday, taken to “ake Provie
dence and tried Tuesday and hung Friday (March, 1859).
The HERALD says fears were entertained that the murderer
would be wrought from the officers with the view of burn-
ing him at a stake, so great was the indignation of the
