"..eAbout 1837 or. 1838, a man by the name of Apse was
executed in the jail yard (Bath, Steuben Co., Ne Yo)e
ecel have a most distinct recollection of seeing people
on the roofs of houses near the jail yard while the
hanging was going on. The man I think was white but as
to that I am not quite certain, e.se!

"John Apps killed his father-in-law named Erskine in the
town of Greenwood. One article says 1837 or 1838, Thexs
other says 1835, but I found John still listed inthe 180
census and have read through the 1840 and 1 newspapers
with no luckee."
