PERRY, Arthur
Perry, a Mitkkm 22-year-old steel construction company employee and
his 20-year-old wife, Phennie, lived in Jamaica, Queen's Coe, Ne Yo
There had never been any serious trouble between the Perrys, but on
the night of June 1, 1937, after the left a Bingo game ad a movie
theater, he took her and their baby girl for a walk and bludgeoned
her to death with a piece of concrete. When her body was found the
next morning, the little girl was lying beside it unharmed. Clues
were abundant indicating that the crime had been committed by a neigh~
bor of the Perry's but they had obviously been planted in an effort
to frame him. The neighbor was able to provide an iron-clad alibi
and even though Perry denied having attended the Bingo game with his
wife, witnesses stated that they had seen him leuve the theatre with
them. A note which he showed to officers and claimed had been written
by the neighbor in which he propositioned Phinney Perry and threatened
to kill her if she ever told her husband was definitely proved to have
been written by Perry. After his arrest, an undercover detective
laced in his cell claimed that Perry had confessed to him that he had
killed his wife though he stated tha he did not know whxt he had Be
gone SO Convicted and sentenced to death, Perry was electrocuted at
ng Sitig Prison on August 2, 1939.
