MOON, Bertie Franklin

Moons; @ 27-year-old white Somerset Co.,; Pa., miner was employed at
a mine at Draketon whose supervisor was 30-year-old Ernest Saylor,
the son of a former Sheriff of Somerset Co, Moon requested a raise
which Saylor refused to grant. On August 11, 1918, he renewed his
request and Saylor discharged him, paying what was owed at the time.
Moon went to Confluence and got drunk and later that night chanced
to meet Saylor there. He tried to pick a fight then but Saylor
turned and walked away, The next morning, Moon went to the mine and
Saylor ordered him from the premises, He then went to his boarding
house, got a shotgun and returned, As Saylor was walking across a

_ public road, Moon shot him with the charge striking Saylor in the
neck and severing the juglar vein. Moon then caught a train to
Confluence where he was promptly taken into custody by officers who
had already received word of the killing. Convicted and sentenced
to die, he was so terrified when he arrived at the State Prison
that it was practically necessary for guards to drag him up the
steps to the main building, He was electrocuted on June 2, 1919,
