MeCane, a white Mouston, Tex., tire salesman was in love with 30-
year~old Hinora Collins, apart a secretary, at a Houston finance
company’s They had only dated a Tew times , but MNeCaine Su pene
ealous of other men who she dated. On the night of Sept. 30, 1915,
Miss Collins was walting for a bus to take her home following a ee
with a friend when Mc Cane Stopped and offered her-a ride, Instead
of taking her home, he drove her to -eaumont where he beat her to
death when she resisted him. He then poured gasoline over the body
at a rubbish pile and set fire to it. Miss Collins was reported
missing the next day and her body was found in the dump at Beaumont
shortly afterwards. MceCane became a suspect when he disappeared
from his rooming house and his automobile was found abandoned in
