Hyde, a,white Anderson, 5S, ©,, cotton mill engineer and his wife, the
daughtée of W. 3, Beasley or MS## Orr Mill, had frequent demestic
striff that finally culminated when Mr, Beasley took his daughter hom
because of Hyde's mistreatment. On the night of July 18, 1911, Hyde
went to Orr Mill and hid outside the Béasley home until all of the
lights were extinguished, andicating that the family had retired.
He removed his shoes, pried a back window open and slipped into the
bedroom where his wife was steeping. She woke up and asked him what
he was doing and he replied that he had cthme to kill her and shot her
three times with a pistol, killing her instantly. One of the bullets
also wounded Mrs. Hyde's young sister who was sleeping with her but
the girl recovered. When Hyde left his wife's bedroom, he was met
in the hall by Mr. Beasley who attempted to wrestle the gun away from
him. Hyde shot him through the heart and escaped by the same window
that he had used to enter the house. He telephoned the Sheriffds
office and told what he had done and was waiting in the road when
the “heriff arrived. He wanted to plead guilty at his trial to the
Micke double murder, but the Judge would not allow him to do so and
appointed an attorney to defend him. A sanity commission ruled:
