REDDING, David June llth, 1778

Redding, a Bennington, Vt., Tory, joined Col, John Peters's Queen
Royal Rangers and engaged in the activities of marauding and foraging
the countryside. “fter his capture, he escaped but was subsequently
_taken_into custody again and tried for treason..He was convicted
and sentenced to hang but a local lawyer pointed out that the ver-
dict was illegal as it was BR88% rendered by a jury composed of only
__six_men, so the execution was postponed for one week during which
Redding was re-tried before a jury of twelve and condemned to die
again. He was hanged av Pennington ondune 10, 1/76.
