"Feb. 2h, 1922-Samel Smith, negro chauffeur, was hanged
at the Baltimore County jail at Towson today for attempted
attack upon Miss Marlia lyon of Glen Ridge, a Goucher
College student and volunteer Soical worker. On Oct, 13,
1921, Miss Lyon was attacked by the negro driver of an
automobile who offered to bring her to Baltimore from the
Rosewood Training School, She was shot several times and
left supposedly dead in the road. Smith was identified by
her and found guilty,"
