28-year-old black man, electrocuted Georgia State Prison
on Nov, 3, 1938 (Troup County). "LaGrange, Gae, Oct.
26, 1938-George Gilbert, negro, who sawed his way out of ¢
the Troup County Jail last June, has been arrested in
Lake Charles, La,, and will be returned to Troup to hear
the death penalty pronounced upon him for the second
time. Sheriff E, V. Hilyer revealed, Arrested last Nov,
ll, Gilbert was found guilty of criminal assault follow-
ing an attack on a young white woman here and was sche-
duled to die in the electric chair in July." ATLANTA
