Thompson, an 18-year-old Charlotte, Ne C., black man and his girl
friend, Miss Williams, a 19-year-old housegirl, with their friends ,
Cleve Johnson and 15-year-old Annie Mae Allison were fares in a
Charlotte taxi driven by Mack Minyard., When they reached X¥KSXX the
destination that they had given Minyard, the four attacked him with
knives and cut him to death, stealing the money that he had in his
possession as well as $2.50 that was on the seat of the cab. John-~
son confessed and gave State's evidence, receiving a life sentence
while the other three were condemned to death. Miss Allison's sen=
tence was-commtad at the last minute and the Governor stated that
