cently enacted by the Louisiana legislature that all execu-
tions shall take place in the state prison here, Hugh
Connerly, a negro, condemned to hang today, was the first
man ever brought to the penitentiary to suffer capital
punishment, Connerly killed a deputy sheriff in Washington
