Darby, a young black man, and his Lh-year-old brother, Peter, were
Slaves, the property of William Taylor of Duplin Cosg Ne Cy On Mar,
13, LOT; Darby, in the presence of and abetted by Peter, killed Mr,
Taylor by Striking him in the head and splitting his skull with the
blade of an axe, The brothers were tried before three justices and
four freeholders inthe Duplin Co, Court Housé 6n March 15, Both
confessed and were found guilty. Darby, the actual murderer, was sen-
tenced to"be immediately committed to Gaol under a good Guard and that
