Summerville, a black man, had abducted a young black. girl.in.Missi-
Sippi in 1926 and a warrant was issued. for. him there, . However,.he
had moved to Pickens Co,,Alabama, and it was necessary. for.-the..
warrant to be forwarded there. . When Pickéns County. Deputy Sheriff
Burt C. Jphnson went to serve the warrant, Summerville. shot.and
killed him. He then escaped and was not captured until. 1935 when.
a fingerprint check revealed that he was serving time.on.a-read.
