"..eeWhen the Warren Suprkior Court (N. C..) met in May,1827,
William Hansell, a free lad of color...was convicted of
burglary on the dwelling House of a lady of great respect
ability...and stealing $5 worth of Sugar Candy and other
articles.'! It was pointed out that this was only one of
many offenses which the lad had committed, The eilitor ob-
served that ‘altho! young, he is considered a most consu-
mmate and hardened villain,' The Court sentenced Irim to di
