McMULLEN, Patrick
McMullen enlisted in several different Golonial regiments during the
Revolutionary War and promptly deserted once he had received his en-
listment bonuse He also enlisted in the British Army and deserted
them. Finally captured, he was tried, convicted and sentenced to
die. He was hanged at Philadelphia on Sept. 4, 1778. McMullen seemed
indifferent to his fate and smiled from the gallows as he remarked
that the rope seemed strong enough to hang any mane

executed upon the Commons in this city. He was a de-
serter from the British and had deserted from several
Colonial regiments. He was so Bardened and insensible

strong enough to hold any man and behaved with the same
