erior Court, Cartersville, Gaey Septe 13, 1977

"Cartersville, Gaes Apre 27, 1920.-Fred Shelton, negro,
under sentence for death for mrder, escaped with three
other prisoners from the jail here todaye The men broke
the locks from three sets of locks with a crow bar said to
have been furnished by a trusty. The three men who got
away with Shelton were two white prisoners and a negro, al)
awaiting trial on small, minor charges. None had been
caught tonight. Shelton had been sentenced to be hanged
