" There is also an interesting case of a Methodist Minis-
ter whose name I do not recall. He was executed on a
rape-murder charge involving his wife's sister and the
evidence was circumstantial. Later a man in Mississippi
confessed to the crime on the gallows, The youthful
Judge who presided over the case involving the minister
was Lucius Q. Ce Lamar, Sr., who had already developed
doubts concerning the minister's guilt. When he heard
of the confession he went to his house, kissed his wife
and @ight children and then walked into the garden and

shot himself. This was in 183) when Lamar was 37 years
