"Hillsborough, NC, Sct. 29, 1628-Henry Bowles has been
committed to the jail of this county, charged with the
murder of Robert Dickey. We shall refrain from giving
particulars; but as related to us, this murder is charac=
terized by circumstances of unusual atrocity." COURIER,

Dec. 11, 1829 for murder of Robert Dickey in this County

men were brothers-in-elaw, both bntemmerate and had been
drinkinge Often quarreled and fought when drunk, On the
evening of crime, they were at a corn=shucking and Boyles
saw Dickey down on hands and knees, too drunk’ to stand,
Went over and stood over him, trying to provoke a fight
unsuccessfully. Dickey tried to stand but fell back
crying aloud that Boyles had a knife and to take him away,

Dickey rose again but as he did so, Boyles rushed hi and
stabbed him in the neck, Dickey died “uring Phe next
day,"
