Two female slaves
(Need confirmation)
From Abbeville (SC) BANNER, May 31, 1851=Two old negro
women belonging to Mr. James F, Watson of this District,
were committed to jail last Wednesday night, to await the
execution of their sentence for an attempt to burn Mr,
Watson's dwelling, The fire was applied by two small
girls at the instigation of the women and the intention
was evidently a most diabolical one = being in the day
time, when all the family were absent, except Mrs, ‘atson
who was sick in bed, The torch was applied so as to fire
the only room through which Mrs, Watson could make her
escape, Fortunately, however, she discovered it in time
and was able to extinguish it. The girls were whipped

and the women are to be hanged on the 13th of next month,
