"Bryan, Texas, July 14, 193h-H. R. Jones, 7O=year-old
country storekeeper living 3 miles from Bedias, was slain
with an ax shortly after midnight last night in what offi
cers believed to have been a robbery, Jones was called
by telephone by someone who asked him to open the store
in order to make a purchase, Jones opened his door and
was apparently struck down without warning, his skull be-
ing crushed with many blows, Some time later, Tom Jones,
aged brother of the slain mampy became worried over the
prolonged absence of his brother and went to look for hin,
finding him beaten to death on the floor of the store
near the door, A cigar box, in which an undetermined
