shot and killed one of their country-men, fa-
tally wounding another, and injured the Rev.
Frederick Poole (perhaps Pooley) head of the
Christian Mission, during a Tong riot on Race
St. on the evening of July 4, 1905; 'they said
they had been orderéd to commit the murders by
the leader of their Tong (Hip Sing) but did not
think their bullets took effect'; they went to
the scaffold with stoical indifference; Poole
was at the execution at request of relatives of
the condemned man; ‘another spectator was E, P.
Davis, State Electrician of New York who had
sent 110 men to death in the electric chair -
ne had never seen a hanging.'; warrant issued,
