‘from the Cherokee Nation=There appears to be great ex=
citement in the neighborhood of Fort Gibson, in relation
to the trial of a Cherokee Indian, by the name of Mac
Fields, a notorious character, who is charged with being
concerned in the murder of Jim Colson, who was killed
better than a year ago, and his body thrown into Grand
River, The Fort Smith TIMES of Aug, 18th, 1859, says:
Mactield has been tried, found guilty and is sentenced to
be hung on Saturday next (August 20, 1859). Hid friends
threaten to rescue him, and he is guarded day and night
by twenty men, On the night after the trial, the horse
of the sheriff was stabbeed in the breast and killed ---
supposed to be done by one of Field's friends, The ex-
citement is great, and we cannot tell how matters will
