Victoriano de Sayas, convicted of the murder of Diago

Alvares, and upon Charles Gamarra, convicted of aiding and

assisting him in perpetrating the horrid act. A short
time previous to his death, Sayas confessed that he did

murder Alvares, and two other men in Havana, one about
seven and the other about nine years ago. We have been
informed that he declared Gamarra was innocent, being
